About This vacancy offer This is a fixed term vacancy of six months duration as cover for an internal secondment. This vacancy offer will strengthen our policy analysis and research capacity in support of our private sector focussed advocacy and campaigning work. Two key areas for this vacancy will be to:-Provide policy input, support and advice to our ' Big Shift' campaign which is putting pressure on UK based banks and asset managers to shift lending and investment away from fossil fuels and into renewable energy.- Further develop our policy, research and organisational strategy on 'Good investment'. This work is at an early stage of development and aims to influence the policy debate and build partner capacity to ensure that private sector investment flows are better aligned with sustainable and equitable development needs. This will be achieved by: carrying out research and developing external facing communications on how investment can be regulated in a way that supports the creation of low carbon economies supporting Christian Aid to highlightand responto external opportunities supporting Christian Aid staff and partners to build their policy capacity exploring This vacancy offer that civil society and in particular faith-based organisations and faith actors can play in bringing about policy change. Key outcomes-Christian Aid's ' Big Shift' campaign is supported by well targeted reports, briefings and recommendations showing why and how banks and institutional investors should shift their investment practices in order to build a a low carbon economy- Our Big Shift work is well integrated and fully coherent with Christian Aid's wider programme of work on Good Investment- Increased impact of our advocacy of our work on specific processes relating to investment policy and behaviour change contributing towards a low carbon economy- Strong and informed Christian Aid engagement with key Private Sector actors on economic and climate justice related issues- Staff including the Directorate are equipped to represent Christian Aid's position on regulation of investment towards achieving a low carbon economyRelationships External: Work with external coalitions, NG Os, faith-based organisations, think-tanks and academics. Builds strong relationships with relevant contacts in other NG Os, labour movement, Government and global institutions working on similar themes. Represent Christian Aid in meetings with key private sector actors and build effective relationships with job seekers and teams Internal: Works closely with colleagues in Policy and Public Affairs Department (PPD) including policy colleagues. Works closely with programme colleagues to ensure that their perspectives and experience inform corporate advocacy and to highlight and support opportunities to increase national level policy analysis and advocacy on economic and climate justice. Working closely with colleagues in media and communications teams to ensure that C A external communications relating to low carbon investment accurate, well informed and represent the interests of both men and women in developing countries Decision makingLead cross organisational policy positioning to further Christian Aid's objectives and work goals in relevant thematic areas and to ensure that policy positions accurately reflect programmatic experience. Represent C A as required and ensure that others representing C A are well informed. Initiate, carry out and commission research to support and help development of reports and advocacy processes and ensure that all external policy positions have been through the agreed internal procedures. Applied skills/knowledge and expertise required and essential -Graduate qualifications, in any of the social sciences, development studies or other relevant field- Excellent knowledge of current academic / policy debates around investment, climate finance and economic justice, especially in context of development-Good understanding of finance and banking sector-Knowledge of power and /or political economy analysis and rights based approaches-Knowledge of broader policy debates around international development including gender inequality and sustainable development- Substantial policy or research experience on economic or climate finance related topic, in an NG O, public policy or similar environment-verified experience of designing and managing research projects, including carrying out and commissioning research-Good understanding and experience of This vacancy offer that research and policy development plays in campaigning and advocacy work.- Excellent verbal and written communications including the ability to communicate complex issues simply-verified ability to deal sensitively and discreetly with people and information-verified ability to work to deadlines and to prioritise work effectively Desirable- A strong research degree, with specialisation in international topics.- Experience of working with, or within large finance or banking institutions - Experience of supporting cross-organisational projects and /or strategies- Experience of working in networks and coalitions- Statistical and quantitative analysis skills-Public speaking to a variety of authority and general audiences, including the media- Familiarity in using development data sets to help construct robust policy analysis, positions and arguments. About youWe are seeking someone with a graduate qualification in a relevant field substantial policy or research experience on an economic or climate finance related topic and practical knowledge and some useful experience of working in an NG O, public policy or similar environment. Experience of working to influence private sector regulation and behaviour would be an advantage as would specific knowledge of finance and international investment. You will be self motivated with verified experience of designing and managing research, the ability to prioritise (ruthlessly when necessary) and comfortable working independently, or as part of a team.
