    A secretary can work as part of a team or on a more individual level. Either way, a secretary or administrator provides clerical support. The job demands both written and good communication skills, word processing and typing is now a must for most jobs. Organisational and presentation skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and work under pressure is required by most employers. Within specialist sectors such as law, many secretaries are required to have relevant qualifications and previous work experience.

    Office managers run all the clerical and admin of the office. They need to understand a range of office software including databases. Also an understanding of filing systems, record management systems and how to record office expenditure and managing the office budget. Other duties are organising the office layout and maintaining supplies of stationery etc. The responsibilities can be very varied, from managing rotas and staff holidays to writing reports for senior management and delivering presentations.
